About Me

Having grown up in Xiamen, a city renowned for its rich history, cultural convergence, and enchanting environment as the "Oceanfront Garden," I developed a deep appreciation for natural elements, Chinese classics, and traditions. At the age of 15, I relocated to Seattle, WA, where I was exposed to a different culture while remaining connected to nature. The wind, ocean, flowers, classical gardens and traditional elements, and continue to inspire and influence my design aesthetic.

Design Philosophy

Fashion, in its essence, is the pursuit of beauty by human beings. My design methodology revolves around intriguing and satisfying the evolving beauty standards and moods of people who seek a connection with nature and cultural heritage. Drawing inspiration from images and stories of the past, I develop mood boards and keywords that drive materiality explorations, resulting in cohesive research that supports my design process.

In my pursuit of sustainable fashion, I strongly believe that design should establish an emotional bond between the customer and the garment, encouraging them to wear and cherish it for a longer duration. Designers also have a responsibility to be creative and transformative in their approach to sustainable materials and design. An example of this can be seen in my recent project, "Connecting Past and Future," where I reinvented batik techniques in textiles, creating new tools, and utilizing wax and copper implements for embellishment, joining, and bonding garments.

Design, to me, is problem-solving and a continuous challenge. It allows designers to truly understand client needs, define problems, and propose innovative solutions. Ultimately, design revolves around people—those who desire it, purchase it, and adopt it into their lives.
